night gamblers
There was dinner glass under your Rooms2Go. These were lamps we had all seen in the
catalog. You’re drunk and I wish I was but somewhere there are still coat hangers on the
floor. They’re putting their shirts on, the way we slip into our desired selves before
meeting in the dark. & I’m outing you as the night gambler, placing bets on each ATM to
take your half chewed debit card. I wish it was just the alcohol, but this might be my new
normal. I tried dancing with the animals to decrease blood’s osmolarity; I already know,
this is worse than when I taught you swing in the street. There’s more red under your
shirt than the lights over it, and I’ve been looking for six weeks to glow up your bones,
their paint chips in a small apartment. In the morning I’ll be taking the shirt off the
hanger, make an act of putting on my I’m-more-than-a-piece-of-shit face. Maybe
tomorrow we’ll find our antecedents, maybe tomorrow maybe tomorrow we’ll be out
before the rain breaks.
