owl mountain is thankfully not
made out of owls. maybe it is
in the shape of an owl & stands
out against twilight, watching
for the time it will swoop down
into the valley, quietly for a
mountain, almost without sound,
to pick something up in its
mountain-talons or mountain-
beak, something large enough
for an owl mountain to sustain
itself on, like a highway or a
water-park/casino hybrid, to
later regurgitate a pellet of
dust & trees & trucks & water-
slides & slot-machines into
the v of the valley where all
that stuff had previously
scurried or froze, & owl
mountain closes its eyes
whatever they might be
so that the dawn won't
come in without asking
& will just leave its leaflets
on the porch or wedged into
the gate or the spaces in
the chain-link fence where
morning glories twine
successfully & bloom again
until owl mountain rouses,
its silhouette impressively
attempted by so many a
local kindergarten class,
where they hang in hopes
of parent-teacher open
house night which takes
place every year in the
recent cavity of the flight
of owl mountain because
if they scheduled it in the
day the parents who were
busy or had to work would
not be able to attend and
could not hush and coo
over the owl-mountain-
shaped silhouettes which
although frankly biomorphic,
resemble owl mountain
only after being
told.
